Due to changes in the Bankruptcy Laws, it is much more difficult to discharge income taxes in a Bankruptcy. Mr. Everett is intimately familiar with the nuances regarding dischargeable taxes in bankruptcy due to his unique background in having represented the Internal Revenue Service in tax / bankruptcy related matters. Mr. Everett can advise clients as to whether they can achieve a discharge of taxes owed and/or arranging for repayment of taxes owed vis-à-vis the filing of a Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. In fact, many clients with tax related issues are referred to this firm for an opinion as to whether their taxes are dischargeable, due to the complexity of tax issues associated therewith, by Certified Public Accountants, Tax Professionals, as well as other Attorneys.

It is particularly important to know whether taxes are dischargeable under the Bankruptcy Code. Although a bankruptcy filing may be necessary for a client for other non-tax reasons, it is important, when tax issues are involved, to be given the proper advice as to the viability of filing a Bankruptcy to resolve outstanding tax matters.
